Dustin Ernberger, MA, LMHC, CHt

I am happy to be a member of the clinical team at Ames Therapy and Consulting, P.C.!  I have been helping adults, adolescents, and children achieve their goals since I began practicing in 1995.  I have a master’s degree in community-based counseling from Ball State University, and I have been licensed in Iowa, my home state, since 1997.  Currently, my clinical focus is on helping adults struggling with anxiety and stress, mood difficulties, life transitions, chronic pain, relationship issues, and habit reversal.

I view effective helping as partnership that develops in the context of a safe, non-judgmental relationship.  We will work together to help you develop the skills necessary to achieve the goals that you have identified as being important to you.  My goal is to help all of the individuals and couples I work with develop an awareness of the ways in which they contribute to their own healing process.  This can result  in an ability to use one’s own strengths and skills to maintain or continue progressing.

My counseling style and my choice of interventions is reflective of my desire to help make our counseling sessions “useable” beyond the session itself.  To this end, I employ the use of the evidence-based cognitive therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).  In addition, I have training and certification in the use of clinical hypnosis, a set of skills  that I teach my clients to implement for themselves as a means of accelerating their progress.

When I am away from the office, I enjoy spending time with my wife and son, drawing, and learning to play the guitar.  I also have a passion for fitness, and I make working out a regular part of my weekly routine.
