Dr. Lori Suvalsky, MD
Dr. Lori Suvalsky, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist with extensive experience in complex psychiatric evaluation and treatment within integrated medical systems, including significant leadership roles at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System, where she has served as Medical Director of Mental Health and Site Director for psychiatric residency training. Dr. Suvalsky has an interest in medical education and assisted in the development of a community psychiatry residency program. As well, she brought services to the VA in Des Moines that were not previously available, including starting an ECT program. Trained at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health with residency training in psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, Dr. Suvalsky’s clinical work has focused on diagnostic clarification, trauma-related conditions, and functional psychiatric assessment within veteran and occupational populations. Her experience within VA systems has included multidisciplinary collaboration, disability-related evaluations, and evidence-based treatment planning, providing a strong foundation for her expertise in workers’ compensation psychiatry, independent medical evaluations, and consultation regarding work-related mental health claims, functional capacity, and return-to-work considerations.
